What Makes A Good President - 1266 Words

America has share of good and bad US presidents a total of 43 in counting. From history I believe that are top three presidents our Lincoln, Washington, and Jefferson. However, the United States has not experienced a good president for every term. There has been some bad presidents including Taylor, Grant, and Hoover When ranking the presidents one must ask themselves What makes a Good president? The answer varies, one good response may be somebody that can build a team and create a culture that knows how to organize and move the ball down the field. Most of the best presidents tried to meet the needs of our country as a one and not be excluding to any particular group. â€Å"In matters of styles swim with the current; in matters of†¦show more content†¦Perhaps, the biggest reason why Lincoln is ranked as one of our best presidents is because he kept the Union together. During his time of presidency the South was forming the Confederate States of America and Lincoln s major goal was to prevent this from happening and bring them back into the Union. Once he succeeded in doing this, Lincoln had to make up a plan for reconstruction of the South. Lincoln could have easily chosen to get revenge on the South for causing so many problems, but he chose not to. He wanted to readmit the southern states who were prepared to be loyal to the Union. This decisio n was important because it allowed the bitterness between the North and the South to subside so that they could be reunited. Also, during his time of presidency, Lincoln encouraged westward expansion by signing The Homestead Act. In signing this the United States became more developed and prosperous. Being the first president of the United States. One day during the American Revolutionary War, George Washington rode up to a group of soldiers trying to raise a beam to a high position.
